Fight Night Productions and Ker’s WingHouse Reloads For

“WingHouse Fight Night”

Fight Night Productions Continues Tampa’s Longest-Running Professional Boxing Series With Its Second Show of 2012

TAMPA, Fla. – On Friday, June 1, 2012 Fight Night Productions and Ker’s WingHouse Bar & Grill are poised to take over the A La Carte Event Pavilion for Tampa’s longest-running boxing series, “WingHouse Fight Night.” The card will showcase some of the area’s most talented and promising professional fighters including Tampa-native and Florida State Featherweight Champion, Charlie “The Beast” Serrano (14-3-1, 4 KOs), Heavyweight sensation, Kenny “Right Hook” Lacy (1-0-0, 1 KO), St. Petersburg prospect, Alphonso Black (2-0-1, 2 KOs), as well as Ft.Myers’ own highly decorated amateur, Bryant Perrella.

Serrano returns to “WingHouse Fight Night” after dropping a hard-fought decision to Camilo Perez (6-0-0) in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the undercard of Showtime Boxing’s presentation of Juan Manuel Marquez/Orlando Salido II. “The Beast” has an impressive 13-1-1 record when fighting at the A La Carte Pavilion, with his only loss at the storied venue dating back to March of 2008.

Lacy, the brother of former United States Boxing Association (USBA), North American Boxing Association (NABA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion, Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy, had an impressive-professional debut at February’s “WingHouse Fight Night,” scoring a devastating, third-round knockout. He will look to continue his climb in the heavyweight division on June 1st.

Rising middleweight prospect Alphonso Black (2-0-1, 2 KOs) will be looking to get back on the winning track after his toe-to-toe war with Victor Pacheco (1-0-1), that ended in a draw at February’s “WingHouse Fight Night.” Black is building quite the fan base at the A La Carte Pavilion by delivering two-sensational knockouts, and an all-action style of fighting.

Also in a feature bout, will be Ft. Myers-welterweight, Bryant Perrella (2-0-0, 2 KOs), who in his last fight, traveled to San Antonio, Texas to score an impressive fourth-round technical knockout of Nick Gonzalez (3-3-1, 1 KO).

Perrella, who announced that he had signed a co-promotional deal with Top Rank Boxing in January of 2012, made his professional debut on February’s “WingHouse Fight Night.”

The former Olympic hopeful and three-time Sunshine State Game gold-medalist displayed lightning-quick hands and sensational power, dropping his opponent three times in the first-round, en route to a technical knockout victory and first professional win.

Also, featured on the card are a couple first time participants on WingHouse Fight Night.  Welterweight, Clarence Booth (2-1-0, 1 KO), is a very popular boxer in Central Florida, and will be looking to make an impressive debut at the A La Carte.  Undefeated Justin Jones (4-0-0, 2 KOs) has created quite a buzz for himself, and is known for his all-action style, which has resulted in a number of entertaining fights.

In the coming weeks, more fights will be announced via our Twitter feed, @FightNight_FL. Tickets for this night of non-stop action start at only $25 and are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets and www.Ticketmaster.com. ORLANDO, FL – Former world champion Christy Martin (49-6-3, 31 KOs) won in the court of law on Friday, as an Orlando court found her ex-husband, James Martin, guilty on three counts including attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.  Martin was viciously attacked by her then-husband on November 23, 2010, whom she was planning on leaving.  James nearly killed Christy Martin, stabbing her numerous times and shooting her.  He faces 25 years to life in prison and will be on June 26.

Christy can now focus on her final fight of her career, a WBC Super Welterweight title bout against former women’s champion Mia St John (46-11-2, 18 KOs).  They are scheduled to fight on June 19th at the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, California.  Tickets for the bout will go on sale May 7th at noon PDT and are available here or by calling (559) 822-7777.  Ticket prices are $55 for General Admission, $60 Reserved, $65 Gold, and $70 for VIP.

Christy and Mia will be rematching nearly ten years after their first contest (December 6, 2002), which saw Christy win via unanimous decision 99-91 and 97-93 twice.  Since that fight, both fighters have seen their careers spiral downward, with Christy compiling a record of 4-4-1 since their bout and the more active Mia going 4-6-0 in her last ten fights.  At the age of 43 (Christy) and 44 (Mia), both boxers have shown great longevity and served as ambassadors to the sport of women’s boxing.  This will be the last match of both their storied careers, FloridaBoxingNews salutes both legends in women’s boxing.

MIAMI – At the beautifully renovated Casino Miami Jai-Alai, WBC U.S. Super Welterweight champion Joe “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez continued on his march to an eventual world title bout by dominating Shakir “The Assassin” Ashanti inside of one round.  Hernandez headlined a great night of boxing promoted by Don King Productions at the newly expanded and renovated Casino Miami Jai-Alai.  In the co-feature bout, WBC ranked number 1 heavyweight and current WBC Silver Champion Bermane “B-Ware” Stiverne won a less than impressive bout against a game Willie Herring.  This event was the first since 2004 at the historic Casino Miami Jai-Alai arena.
Miami’s Joey Hernandez, (21-1-1 , 12 KOs), 164.25 lbs , took less than a round to dispatch Shakir Ashanti, (16-13-0, 4 KOs), 158.5 lbs. Ashanti caught hold of Hernandez’s right hand and held on in the middle of the round. Hernandez unloaded his left hand to the exposed head Ashanti , landing dozens of shots. Ashanti fell to the canvas after the succession of blows. He was able to rise before the ten count, but unable to withstand the flurries upon flurries that soon followed. Referee stepped in to stop the bout at the 2:46 mark.
After the fight, Hernandez called out Cory Spinks who was in attendance, commenting “I’m a bad dude when I want to be.  I wiped out Shakir Ashanti like a plate of dishes in the first round—and he went 10 rounds with Cory Spinks!”  Spinks came to the ring and grabbed a microphone to respond to Hernandez’s comments, stating to the crowd that he will stop Hernandez in a fight.
WBC No. 1 ranked contender Bermane “B-Ware” Stiverne (22-1-1 , 20 KOs), 243 lbs , defeated Willie Herring (13-11-3, 4 KOs ), 212.75 lbs , in an eight round contest.  The opening round started slow, as both heavyweights felt each other out.  Herring took the fight to Stiverne, moving in and out with his punches.  Stiverne established early that he was the stronger puncher.  Herring’s right hook found the mark in the second, landing flush on Stiverne.  Stiverne focused on the body, pounding Herring’s sides in the third round.
The body work paid off in the later rounds, as Stiverne switched roles with Herring in the fifth, finally becoming the aggressor in the ring.  Stiverne opened up more with his punches, while also letting his mouth run wild in the ring.  In the sixth round, Herring was able to land a solid left hook that hurt the top ranked contender.  A sense of urgency finally came over Miami ’s Stiverne, as the hometown crowd had shifted to supporting the Orlando fighter.  In the final round, Stiverne stalked Herring, trying to utilize the strength advantage to knockout Herring.
The judges scored the bout a unanimous decision 79-73 twice and a more accurate 77-75 all for the Miami native, Stiverne.  The crowd disapproved of the decision, booing the results.  After the match, Stiverne seemed upbeat about the fight, “Willie Herring gave me just what I needed tonight, a chance to show all the things we’ve been working on in the gym like head movement, establishing my jab, body shots and throwing punches in bunches.”
2008 Haitian Olympian and Miami native Azea Augustama (13-1-0 , 8 KOs), 190 lbs , defeated Grover Young (6-7-1 , 3 KOs ), 194 lbs .  Young came forward much of the opening round, trying to take the action to the Olympian.  Augustama held his own well, countering Young and landing several flush shots.  In a bizarre ending to the fight, in the second round Young backed away grabbing his forehead out of nowhere.  Augustama paused for a second not knowing what happened, then turned on the heat landing a flurry of punches dropping Young for a ten count.  Afterward it appeared Young was complaining of a headbutt or a thumb to the eye, however, he forgot a cardinal rule of boxing: protect yourself at all times.
The Brazilian knockout artist Marcus “Happy” Oliveira (23-1-1 , 21 KOs), 182.25 lbs , lived up to his nickname destroying Adam “Atom Bomb” Collins (11-6-0, 8 KOs ), 178.75 lbs in the first round.  Oliveira wasted no time, pouncing on Collins as the match started.  The fight culminated with a powerful left hook that dropped Collins.  Referee administered the count and waived off the fight at the 0:49 mark.  In post fight comments, Oliveira stated “I predicted I would win the fight with a body shot and I did.  My body shot dropped him for good.  The last time I saw a body shot like that was Tito Trinidad vs. Rafael Pineda.  I’m a big Tito fan, so I have always wanted to land a body shot like that.”  On future plans, Oliveira was not shy, “I’m ready to fight for a world championship this year.  I’d fight Nathan Cleverly tomorrow.”
U.S. Olympic trials finalist Amir Imam (4-0-0, 3 KOs), 140.75 lbs , easily defeated John Willoughby (3-12-0 , 2 KOs ), 137 lbs .  Imam made quick work of Willoughby knocking him down twice in the opening stanza en route to a second round TKO.  Imam landed at will in the bout, hurting Willoughby with body shots in the second round.  A solid right to the face forced the referee to jump in and call a halt to the bout at the 1:17 mark of the second.
In the opening bout of the night, undefeated Trevor Bryan (3-0-0, 2 KOs ), 224.5 lbs , kept his record in tact by outboxing and outworking the much larger Brandon Spencer (1-3-0 , 1 KO), 282 lbs .  Bryan proved early on that he was the better technical fighter, landing cleaner shots against the more brawling Spencer.  Action heated up in the third and fourth rounds as both fighters tired and punches landed at ease.  All three judges reached the same conclusion, scoring the contest 40-36 for Bryan .

“Tampa Bay Warriors” Card Cancelled in Tampa

Posted by floridaboxingnews on March 5, 2012

By Christopher P. Cook at ringside

In a disappointing turn of events, Friday’s “Tampa Bay Warriors” card was abruptly cancelled by the Florida Boxing Commission. With less than an hour before the first bell was going to ring, one of the fighters scheduled to fight was unable to produce the proper blood work required by Florida regulations and had to be removed from her fight. The removal reduced the amount of bouts to four, below the state’s requirement of five bouts to be a sanctioned event.

It is unfortunate for Reyes Promotions and Estrada Entertainment Productions that the card ended this way. The Tampa, Florida card originally was scheduled to host fights including Nick “The Showstopper” Iannuzzi, Chevelle “Fist of Steel” Hallback, along with local favorites Jose Alonzo and Wilky Campfort. Reyes Promotions has scheduled their next event on April 27th at the Tampa Convention Center in Tampa, Florida.
